The search for morality thus remains for Hobbes, as is the case with his understanding of politics, profoundly structural: a moral life can only be achieved through the structural transformation of human affairs that the Leviathan can bring about, and that first allows the civil peace necessary to the very pursuit of morality in social affairs to emerge.

Where a direct opposition between the nature of domestic and that of international politics is presupposed, first, a much more nuanced gradation between the two types of politics has to be imagined.
